History Of Sariska Tiger Reserve

Sariska Tiger Reserve has a rich historical and cultural background connected with the royal heritage of Rajasthan. Earlier, the forest area served as a hunting ground for the Maharajas of Alwar. Due to increasing concern for wildlife conservation, the area was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1955.
Later in 1978, Sariska was included under Project Tiger, a major wildlife conservation initiative launched by the Government of India to protect the Bengal Tiger population. The reserve became internationally famous after the successful relocation and conservation of tigers. Today, Sariska stands as an excellent example of wildlife conservation and eco-tourism management in India.
